What do i feed a bear cub?

lew10281 asked:

The cub’s mom attacked us for supposedly threatening her young so she charged at us and my friend killed her instantly. So we didn’t want to leave the cub to fend for itsself so i took him home with me. Now the question is what do i feed this baby?

FYI its a Black Bear Cub
I agree with Lee P. He is really cuddly. But i am serious. I have him in my basement and i fed him a raw filet mignon. Im going to keep him and raise until he gets too big.

People keep raccoons, possums, etc as pets….why can’t i keep a bear?

If you are serious, you need to contact the local animal authorities and let them handle it. Surely there’s some kind of wildlife reserve or something. The cub should be taken care of by professionals that know what they are doing so that s/he can eventually be released to the wild.

If you aren’t serious, then you need a hobby.

Call a wildlife person that is near you don’t keep it or let it go!

If you are actually serious, and here is one question where I really hope this is bulls**t, contact your nearest wildlife center. You cannot keep wildlife. It is illegal and very dangerous.

    “supposedly threating her young”
she doesn’t need a good reason to attack you if you’re near her cub.mama bears are fiercely protective of their young so it was your fault for being near her in the first place.
Call a zoo or animal control.they’ll know what to do better than you. You’ve done enough killing the mother bear, haven’t you??

In northern US climates the bears are still hibernating and I don’t recall anyone ever able to instantly kill a bear. I’m certain you don’ have a weapon capable of that so I think you are pulling a fast one. Also. Anyone in bear country knows how, or should know how, to keep bears at a distance by talking, whistling and making noise. Given a choice bears will avoid humans.

    In addition to your addition.
A young bear cub birthed this year will be too small to eat a fillet mignon.

You can’t keep a bear simply because it’s illegal to do so without the proper licensing. Get the right licensing and permits and you can keep a bear. Of course, that means creating a proper habitat for him, knowing how to care for him, having the right insurance, etc.

A bear “cub” at this time of year is asleep in his den with his mother and siblings. They hibernate from late fall until spring as a family unit. Any cub found now would be a yearling and would be far from cuddly.
